Spelling may look like a small skill, but it shapes how children read, write and speak. At the American Lycetuff DNK Spelling Competition, took the stage to show how much they have learned, and how bravely they can use it in front of an audience.
Highlights of the Spelling Competition
The competition was held on 18-October-2026. Students from took part, and each one had to listen to a word, think carefully and spell it aloud in front of teachers, classmates and judges.
Some rounds were quick and others were tough, and the room stayed focused throughout. There were nervous pauses, confident answers and plenty of applause for every participant, whether they went on to the next round or not. You can watch the highlights in the video further down this page.
Encouraging English Language Skills
A spelling competition does more than test memory. Preparing for one helps students build several skills at once:
- Vocabulary and spelling accuracy. Learning how words are built helps children recognise patterns, and that makes reading and writing easier.
- Pronunciation and word recognition. Saying words aloud helps students connect how a word sounds with how it is written.
- Listening and concentration. Students must listen closely to the exact word and stay calm enough to spell it correctly.
- Confidence and public speaking. Standing up and speaking in front of others is a skill that supports presentations, interviews and class participation later on.
These habits support learning across every subject, because strong English helps students understand questions, explain ideas and write clear answers.
Building Confidence Through Healthy Competition
Healthy competition is not only about winning. When it is run well, it teaches students to:
- Challenge themselves by preparing for something that feels difficult
- Learn from mistakes, because a misspelt word is a chance to learn it properly
- Celebrate others, by cheering for classmates as well as themselves
- Stay calm under pressure, which helps in exams and in everyday life
At American Lycetuff DNK, we want every child to feel proud of taking part, because the courage to try is already a win.
A Supportive Learning Environment at American Lycetuff DNK
Events like this sit alongside everyday learning in our classrooms. Across our Early Years, Primary Years, Middle Years and Senior School programmes, students take part in interactive lessons, STEM and robotics activities, and other co-curricular opportunities that help them grow academically and personally.
Our teachers, supported through ongoing teacher training, guide students through preparation, and our student guidance and counselling team supports children who feel nervous or need extra encouragement. Alongside academics, our approach to Tarbiyah reminds students to compete with good manners, honesty and respect.

Why Activities Like This Matter
Confident, capable learners are built through many small moments: a word learnt carefully, a speech given bravely, a mistake turned into progress. Spelling competitions give students all three. We are proud of every student who took part, and of the families and teachers who supported them.
